Our founding optometrist, Dr. Kerinna McDonald, manages all clinical aspects of Cleared to Drive and ensures that the DMV receives accurate and complete vision test results. You'll be able to submit your driver's license renewal directly on the DMV's website as soon as you complete your vision test with us.
It's easy! When you schedule an appointment you'll get a link to click to start your online vision test from a phone, laptop, or any device that has a camera.
First we'll confirm your identity and then adjust the size of the letters to match how big your screen is. You'll walk back 10 feet from your device and then read the letters out loud. It only takes a few minutes and you can finish the rest of your renewal online as soon as you pass!
When taking the test, make sure you have enough space to walk 10 feet away and have your driver's license or another form of photo ID with you. You can learn more about our online tests here or

White Plains, NY
You all provide a good service and directly or indirectly you are helping the DMV out.
With services such as yours, I don’t see why anyone would need to postpone the vision test because of fear of the pandemic when you offer an excellent alternative service to do it now.
Katonah, New York
Finally renewed! Thanks for your very friendly & helpful service!
I wanted to thank Maya for a wonderful job. She made me feel very confident about myself.
I was so happy when she said “CONGRATULATIONS” you passed your vision test! I received my license in the mail on Tuesday, December 1st.

It is absolutely right. Use this website with Dr. McDonald to get your vision test for your New York driver’s license. My results were in Albany, New York the next day and you will have a link to the DMV to fill your driver’s license renewal online and pay by credit card and you will even get a temporary license you can print and an email confirmation from the DMV.
They have made this very easy for us in these difficult times when every DMV is closed and you can’t do this in person right now.

Bad weather? Covid concerns? No DMV appointment? No problem. Saw Cleared to Drive during a Google search for a local vision test provider, found this, clicked, and within 15 minutes I was having a professional vision test!
I passsed! The rest of my application was completed electronically and I had a PDF of my renewed license all in minutes. I highly recommend this service.
Very pleasant. Very helpful.
Yes, I’m turning 50 and my driver license is expiring. I used this service for my eye test! Easy, simple and great communication through the process. I recommend it for all.
This was so easy and took only a few minutes from the comfort of my own home to complete. Thanks.
Spring Valley, NY
What a dream, sitting on the couch in your own home and get the driver’s license vision test done over the phone with a big “congratulations” for passing an approved test. Wow! It’s an excellent experience. Keep it up forever.
Port Washington, NY
Rather than battle long lines and go out during COVID, I was able to get my DMV eye test done in minutes, in my own home and I received my renewed license within a couple of weeks. It was an amazingly easy process!!!
Communication with representative was very professional. Taking the eye exam was quick and easy. I would recommend using Cleared to Drive to anyone that needs an eye exam for getting their license renewed.

Great experience. I live in NYC, rehabbing a new knee out in Laguna Beach, CA. My NYS driver’s license expires in about one month. Only places I could find that would administer the eye test out here wanted $175 for a complete eye exam which I didn’t need.
The Cleared to Drive eye test was easy peasy and, since they sent the results to the motor vehicle bureau instantly, I renewed my license online immediately after. Highly recommended regardless if you’re out of state or want to get your eye test from home.
It was fast and easy. Very friendly people.
The lady that did my eye exam for my license renewal was very kind. She spoke Spanish too! I couldn’t believe it, and the woman who took care of me was a big help when I didn’t understand something. Definitely recommend.
East Elmhurst, NY
It was a very easy process done in your home and you don’t need to go anywhere. Just be ready to walk a few steps away from your device to take the vision test. My tester was remarkably pleasant to work with.
So I don’t give commercial shout-outs very often, but Cleared to Drive was able to give me a legit NYS DMV eye exam from my CELLPHONE!! 🤣
New York, NY
I was out of state and really needed my license renewed. I couldn’t find any vision providers in the area and found Cleared to Drive. I was a little hesitant but after doing some research saw that they are legit. For anyone questioning, they are.
I was able to get an appointment the next morning and got my license renewed within 20 minutes. The providers were super nice and efficient. Would definitely recommend.
We're excited to help make renewing your license as fast and smooth as possible!

Gio: Kieran in Dix Hills has advice for me. What's going on, Kieran?
Kieran: Hey, good morning guys. Hey, Gio… so yesterday you were talking about you had to go to the DMV to take an eye test.
Gio: Yeah, cause they're gonna suspend my license apparently. Yes.
Kieran: Yeah, I had the same issue. So yesterday I went online to renew my license. I'm going through to put my stuff in and it says I need an eye test. So I'm like "crap." So I Googled a little bit more and you can take the test right online. If you Google "new york license eye test" you get a...
Gio: And you give somebody your social security number and then send them $600?
Kieran: No, no, it's $49 bucks and an ophthalmologist comes right onto your screen, shows you 3 screens, you read the letters and he says, "OK, you pass." They send you an email, he tells you he already sent the link to the DMV. You click the link in the email and you go to put your stuff in – your info to renew your license – and the eye test part doesn't even come up and it's done in like 5 minutes.
Gio: Ok. I will try it. New York license eye test. Google that. And I get a...
Boomer: While we still have 97 year olds driving.
Gio: Right... virtual ophthalmologist!
Kieran: I had to do the same thing. I had to do the same thing. It was ridiculous.
Gio: OK, all right. Now, I appreciate that, Kieran. I will give that a shot because there's nothing worse. Even though the DMV's a little bit better now that you make appointments, it's a little bit better. They kind of figured that out.
Boomer: Since the pandemic it's been much better.
Gio: Yeah, and I go all the way out to Riverhead because there's not as many people out there going to the DMV as there are in like Medford and some of these other places around me. But if I don't have to go in there, I will not go in there just like everybody else in America. I mean, it is the worst. It is hell – straight living hell.
Boomer: I kind of feel bad about the people who work there.
Gio: Do you?
Boomer: I do because I don't think it's necessarily their fault. I think it's pretty much, they're understaffed and there's so many things that go on through the DMV. Like, it's just, it's never ending. Could you imagine working there, like, for 25 years and going there the same day, the same day.
Gio: No, no, I'd be... but that's everybody's job.
Boomer: I know, but I mean, like that particular job and you're always dealing with somebody that doesn't have the right paperwork or something. "You don't have the right paperwork!" And then they get pissed off and then you gotta fight with them.
Gio: Yeah, it's very stressful.
Gio: It is the worst. All right, thanks Jerry. It's Boomer and Gio coming to you live with Built Ford Tough Studio...
