How does it work?
It's easy! When you schedule an appointment you'll get a link to click to start your online vision test from a phone, laptop, or any device that has a camera.
First we'll confirm your identity and then adjust the size of the letters to match how big your screen is. You'll walk back 10 feet from your device and then read the letters out loud. It only takes a few minutes and you can finish the rest of your renewal online as soon as you pass!

Who does the test?
Kerinna McDonald OD, a New York licensed Doctor of Optometry, founded Cleared to Drive in 2020. She hopes to make your driver's license renewal process a bit easier, quicker, and less stressful by enabling you to complete your required vision screening from home.
Dr. McDonald has years of industry experience in a range of practice modalities including independent private practice, boutique optical shops, nursing homes, volunteer community screenings, and industry research.
Before founding Cleared to Drive, Dr. McDonald served as Principal Investigator in an applied clinical science research study that contributed to the development of the ACUVUE® DEFINE® contact lens. She is a graduate of SUNY State College of Optometry after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California.
Nancy Feldman, NY Licensed Optician, completed her studies at the New York Technical Institute in Brooklyn. She has worked in many Optical establishments including London Optical and EB Meyrowitz in New York City. For many years Nancy has worked in nursing homes providing eyeglasses to the residents.
She is very happy to be with such a progressive company as Cleared to Drive and looks forward to seeing you!
Jonathan Quatro ABOC is a New York State Licensed Optician with years of experience in the optical industry. He has gained experience in the optical field in both clinical and fashion settings, providing patient care for those in need and also styling celebrities with eyewear for the red carpet!
In addition to his work with Cleared to Drive, he is also practicing opticianry at a VA outpatient clinic, helping our nation's veterans with their vision needs.

Great experience. I live in NYC, rehabbing a new knee out in Laguna Beach, CA. My NYS driver’s license expires in about one month. Only places I could find that would administer the eye test out here wanted $175 for a complete eye exam which I didn’t need.
