Is your license expired? And are you now at a completely different address than the one listed on your license? If you are renewing your license and need to update your address (or if you need to update your address at any other time), you will need to complete the following steps:
First, you will have to update your address with the Post Office. Then, you will need to change your address directly with the DMV. To avoid leaving your home during a pandemic or if you’re currently abroad, you can update your address with the DMV completely online here.
You can take the required vision test online!
If you would feel more comfortable changing it in person with a live representative, you can schedule an in-person appointment with a DMV branch in your county. You’ll need to take into account that COVID-19 may affect appointment availability; some locations have long wait times. Don’t forget to bring your mask!
Once both of these steps have been completed, your new address will match what the DMV has on file, so now you will be able to continue with the rest of your renewal and your license will have the correct address on it. You can complete your license renewal in person as long as you schedule an appointment, or online.
